In our ongoing mission to celebrate and document inspiring stories of fatherhood, we had the privilege of connecting with a remarkable dad who has chosen to navigate fatherhood in his own unique way. Meet Stikra, a proud Jamaican dad who has redefined his journey by intertwining his greatest passions with the joys of being a father.
Strika’s love for coconut tree climbing runs deep. Growing up on the lush island of Jamaica, he honed his skills from a young age, finding solace and exhilaration amidst the swaying branches. Today, as a father, he has seamlessly integrated this passion into his parenting journey by sharing with his little ones the thrill of reaching new heights and connecting with nature.
The ocean holds a special place in Strika’s life. The rhythmic sound of crashing waves, the salty breeze, and the vastness of the water bring him a sense of peace and freedom. As a dad, he recognizes the transformative power of the ocean and its ability to ignite curiosity and awe in his children. Together, they explore the shorelines, creating precious memories and instilling a deep love for nature.
On the day of our visit, we witnessed not only the radiant smiles and excitement of Strika’s children watching him climb the tree and toss down coconuts, but our entire team and innocent bystanders as well. Cars were pulling over to watch and photograph Strika. To see how impactful his passion is not only for him and his family, but how much it truly captivated and inspired those around him that day.
His son Koa, toddling behind his dad carrying fresh fruit picked from the tree. His daughter eagerly dancing below her dad 10 ft above her gathering the coconuts as he throws them down awaiting to get a sip of the finest water nature provides. To say it was amazing would be an understatement. It was extraordinary to witness and be a part of.
Strika's journey, his passion for climbing, the gathering of coconuts, and the grounding that happens when one connects to nature is a beautiful testament to the intertwining of transition, family, and and ultimately, in this story, fatherhood. Fathering his way where inner passion and the desire for a strong family bond intersects.
